Joe, our camp attendant at Seseganaga, gets to fish now and then himself. Fresh walleye for supper is a nice perk of the job. Once he gets his work done for the day nothing beats a little R&R on the lake.
He is not lonely in the bush but he would still like to have you visit.
Seseganaga Lake with Ignace Outposts. A vacation to remember.
These “little” guys are growing several pounds per day. By fall they will larger than a large whitetail deer. Not bad considering they are on mother’s milk for a few months yet. In a few years they may well be supporting a rack that spans up to 5 or 6 feet across.
Joe and his buddies were hanging out and planning a 5-day fishing trip at Ignace Outposts. Unfortunately, he had to tell them that he couldn't go because
his wife wouldn't let him.
After a lot of teasing and name calling, Joe headed home
totally frustrated. When the big day came to head north to Ignace they were shocked to see Joe sitting in the driveway,
drinking a beer, holding his fishing rod, tackle box and sleeping bag!
"How did you talk your wife into letting you go, Joe?"
"I didn't have to," Joe replied. "Last I night I slumped down
in my chair with a beer to think about you guys heading to Ignace Outposts and to drown my sorrows.
Then, my wife snuck up behind me and covered my eyes and said, 'Surprise.' When I peeled her hands back, she was standing there in a beautiful see-through negligee
and she said, 'Carry me into the bedroom and throw me to the bed, and you can
do whatever you want'......SO HERE I AM !"

Bob and his crew have made yearly trips to Ignace Outposts since the late 80’s. They have fished most of our lakes and seen our business develop since our earliest years in Ignace. They do keep coming back for more. 2010 is already set up for these guys.

Metionga Lake has caribou too. Bob Donnelly took this picture last week on Metionga of a bull caribou leaving the water after swimming across from an island.
Their antlers grow quickly considering this growth has happened this summer only. Like moose caribou drop their antlers each year. Unlike other ungulates, the cow caribou also grow antlers.
Our camps are at the very southern range of woodland caribou in Canada. Seeing them is a real treat since they are rather elusive. Keep you camera ready when visiting our camps. You never know what you can capture.

Had a great week with the Snapp group again this year...wanted to include a photo of the 44 inch northern pike I snagged on my ultra light spinning reel with 6 pound test line...great fight up on Flindt!!!! Thanks again for some great fishing.

Dave returned from Flindt Lake on Friday and sent this photo and note as soon as he got home. It is fish like this that makes an Ignace Outposts vacation so memorable. Besides the food and the company you keep, good fishing makes the trip.
Moose drop their antlers (they don’t have horns) each year and grow new ones. While the new antlers are growing they are covered with a velvet like skin and can bleed if damaged. Once they are fully grown, the velvet is scraped off and the antlers are the consistency of bone.
There are so many different varieties of wildlife waiting to be photographed at our outposts. Be sure to bring your camera and don’t hesitate to capture some wildlife other than your cabin buddies in various states of undress.
Fish pictures are great too, but don’t limit your observations or creativity.
Nothing like a few old friends heading off to an outpost lake to reminisce, tell a few tall tales, solve world problems and create new memories.
My dad has a way of finding the big ones.
Big walleye seems to be the order of the day on Irene Lake. It is a deep clear water lake so we don’t see as many walleye on Irene as we do on our north lakes, but they are well worth the effort.
Even a few walleye like this will make your trip. If you want numbers of fish, try Seseganaga Lake, Metionga Lake or Hilltop Lake. If size is your goal, along with bass, northern, lake trout and white fish, Irene Lake is the one.
OK so this was photo shopped a little. The message remains however. Bears are not usually a problem around our camps but if they are fed, they come back. When they come back they begin to be a problem.
Keeping garbage bagged and in the shed, keeping used fish oil in a sealed container inside the cabin, not leaving fish remains or other food outside the cabin are good first steps to a bear free week.
In case you were looking for the photo shopping in the photo, the bare (naked) guy in the window was removed.
I have to think my kids grew up in a virtual paradise. Not much use for video games and TV in our house. If the activity was worth doing, it was usually done outside.
I came across this photo the other day of me and my son Mike. This picture was taken 20 years ago this summer. He is married and lives in another town now but still likes to fish with his dad. We are planning a father son get away in a few weeks. Believe me every moment with your kids is worth the time. Quality time in a boat is priceless. Rain or shine, cold or warm, wet or dry, the memories last a life time.
Take your kids fishing, you’ll both value it.
Irene Lake is one of these lakes that feature multiple species. Of course walleye are great for shore lunch while nothing fights like a small mouth.
We haven’t had much for summer weather yet and we are already half way through July. Temps remain below normal and rain gear sales are likely high at the sports stores.
The walleye don’t mind a little water. It seems to be their preferred environment. We however have to dress for the weather. Fishing reports remain great on all lakes for the guys who venture out into the rain and wind.
Paul moved to Canada from Australia and finds a little R&R on Flindt Lake is like nothing at home.
Even during the “rainy season” which incidentally has been most of this summer, the walleye like to entertain. G’day mate! Cricky, another too big for the barby.
Irene Lake has small mouth bass. The drive from Arkansas may seem long for these fellows but it is well worth it when on the rod end of a fight with feisty small mouth.
July 14, 1979. 30 years ago today we got “hitched”. This picture was taken on our wedding day, on our honeymoon, on an island, on Lake Superior. We were married in the morning, had an afternoon reception and sailed away into our future on a sailboat.
Yes the skinny guy is me.
Happy 30th hon. 3 fantastic kids, a couple in-law kids, and 2 grandkids… it has been a great ride. Who would have thought?
Joey our dock hand (fishing fanatic) knows how to get the big ones.
It is nice to know there are still some great fish in the lakes. Give Ignace Outposts a try. Not everyone will catch a trophy like this but you will catch fish and have a great time doing it. Rest assured, the fish are HERE!
Even tho’ Joey may disagree, much of this kind of success is just plain luck. Being on a great lake and putting time on the water really changes the luck into your favor however. Talk to him while waiting for the plane, maybe Joey will share some of his “local” knowledge. A couple of hours after work can produce wonders for him and I am sure a few days away from work can do the same for you.
I guess this picture doesn’t need nor warrant an explanation. I just wonder if it hurt.
Just another good reason to pinch down the barbs. Easy removal from the fish, easy removal from your finger (or other body part) and easy removal from your attire.
Joey, our dock hand this summer, found a few moments to fish with his wife this past week. Without revealing his “super secret spot” (locals are like that), here is a glimpse of a double header they caught. Our pilot Rob took the picture and verifies the awesome fish.
All I can say is that Ignace is the place to fish.

What ever the break down of duties, this father and son pair know how to have fun.

If you have a chance while loading the plane for your trip to talk to Joey about fishing, I know he can talk you ear off – and most of it is true!
If you look closely on the rock, there is a Native rock painting (pictograph) of what appears to be a moose. This site near our cabin on Metionga Lake indicates there where folks plying these waters many, many years before us. I wonder what the fishing was like then. I suspect it was as fabulous then as it is now.

Dave Trcka sent a note about these three fish all caught within 1 hour on Metionga Lake in sight of the cabin.
“I caught (Lower Rapids)a 34” Northern (no Picture), a 40” Northern (57 ), a 42” Northern (53 ) and a 26” Walleye(55) all within an hour!”
This kind of fishing is not out of the ordinary at Ignace Outposts
Dave and his wife Dee drive 30 plus hours from home in Colorado the make their annual trip to Metionga Lake. Great to see you folks again and we’ll see you next summer.
Wisconsin Dells is known as a great vacation destination. The resorts there are fantastic and draw folks from all over the world. But, the big question is “where would someone from the Dells go to vacation?’ I know where they go. Metionga Lake is as fine a destination as there is. Pete and Tom leave the Dells each year with a crew of guys and head up to Canada.
I know that even those who live in a resort area need a little break now and then. Metionga Lake is just one of our many outpost lakes that offer fine walleye and northern fishing, not to mention a well needed break.
Over the years we’ve added a few luxuries to our cabins. Hot and cold running water allow for a nice hot shower. Some guys however prefer the grin and bare it method of bathing.
Even if I lost a bet, I wouldn’t voluntarily get into the waters around here early in the season.

The Wood party came to Seseganaga Lake in June on a first time fly in trip all the way from Florida.
The group experienced some of our best weather and best fishing. No doubt they’ll be back again.
